U-Bahn München: 88/100 Stiglmaierplatz

Munich Underground: 88/100 Stiglmaierplatz

It's been a few weeks since my last entry in my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series; St.-Quirin-Platz station was quite the eye catcher. Today's station - Stiglmaierplatz underground station - not so much. It was opened in May 1983 as part of the western extension of the green U1 line together with the stops at Maillingerstraße and Rotkreuzplatz. Stiglmaierplatz station is basically an identical twin of the former as they share all main design features like wall colouring or pillar tiling. All in all, the design can be best described as absolutely unremarkable.

The utter dullness of the design, however, had a positive effect: from that point forward new stations had to be not only functional but also architecturally interesting and appealing.

Exiting at Stiglmaierplatz station, you can reach Löwenbräukeller beer hall at Dachauer Straße.
