Kitty Lux memorial concert

A wonderfully warm, sad, uplifting and entertaining concert by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain to celebrate the life and works of founder member Kitty Lux who died last year.

Proceeds from the event, which was played to a packed and enthusiastic audience, many with their ukes, are going to create a Kitty Lux Foundation to promote musicianship. Kitty did as much as anyone to bring about the revival of the ukulele as a serious instrument.

Also on stage, at the beginning and end of the concert were all the members of the original lineup from 1985. A superb evening, tinged with great sadness but uplifting because of the music and the obvious camaraderie between uke players.

The concert was the rose between two thorns, the journey up and back being the thorns. A 40 mile journey which should have taken an hour and a half took nearly two and a half. Traffic in East London atrocious. We only just arrived in time. We take the car as we were taking Doreen who can’t use public transport nowadays. I think that is the last time we’ll do that journey. It’ll be the two of us by train in the future.
