YORK

I went to York today.  It was a coach trip organised by Ritchie and Emma the L.I.F.E. instructors who run the Fitness Class I attend.  I went to the Gateshead pick up point.  Members from various classes round the area were on the coach  - 43 in total.

It took around 2 hours to get to York.  Once there I headed for the Tourist Info place to get myself a map. I saw an ice cream van in the Museum Gardens so I popped in there for a cornet.  I chose Hokey Pokey flavoured ice cream ( vanilla and honeycomb). Then I went to The National Railway Museum.  Very interesting place - well worth a visit.  I have put a few photos in my Extras.

Then I walked back towards The Minster and wandered around the narrow streets including The Shambles. Had another ice cream cornet - Salted Caramel flavour this time.

Also in my Extras is a collage showing The Minster, The Shambles and the pub The Golden Fleece which is the oldest and most haunted Coaching Inn in York.  It is mentioned in York archives as far back as 1503.  I have a personal connection as my Grandad's uncle was the Innkeeper there in the 1800's.

My blip shot shows the River Ouse - photos taken from both sides of the Lendall Bridge.

York was very busy - lots of tourists.  And the weather was HOT. Very tiring  walking around the crowded streets.  The coach arrived to take us home at 3.45pm.

Everyone had a really nice time and we all agreed that another trip should be organised in the future.

( It would have been my Mam's 93rd birthday today.  She had a stroke on her 56th birthday in 1981 and died on 14th July 1981. Taken from us far too soon and always in my thoughts.  Happy Birthday Mam. )
