Improvisation Number Nine

There is a piano in the lobby of the building that I work in, and I have mentioned how much I enjoy simply looking at it. The wall behind the piano is made up of patterns and lines. If you get right up close, you can play with those visual elements and the reflections they make on the piano.

A few weeks ago, I took some photos of the piano, and all of those lines and reflections. I was pleased with how they turned out, but I was running out of extra photos, so you only got to see ONE of those piano shots. So on this morning, my first day back at work in the new year, I went back for more.

In my own life, there is an intersection between and among the arts. I love to make pictures, and I love to listen to music. In fact, in this blip photo blog, a few years ago, I made the decision to always post a song link with each photo; it helps more fully capture my own experience, in which beauty of image is wrapped up in beauty of song.

I find that photo making bears some similarities to music making. There is line and pattern and repetition, with the unusual little riff tossed in here and there: something sparkly or special. So here is a little glimpse into an image of music, in which I play with those elements. I call this little effort Improvisation Number Nine.  :-)

The soundtrack to go with this image has to be a piano song, in which someone has an amazingly fun time tickling the ivories. So here is Jerry Lee Lewis, with Great Balls of Fire. The music begins around one minute in. Enjoy!

P.S. I've added a second song link, upon a friend's suggestion. :-) Here are The Searchers, with Love Potion Number 9.
