4.00pm salute....

Welcome to Valletta!
This gun is fired at 12.00 pm and 4.00pm daily at the Saluting battery just below the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta, Malta. A great welcome for our arrival.

Our bijou apartment is situated at the foot of the steps leading up to the gardens, so after a quick settling in we headed up to view the spectacle. The apartment is called Harbour view and it certainly lives up to its name. The extra, taken from our little balcony looks across the harbour to the Three Cities and the Fort St Angelo on the middle one Vittoriosa (along with a few gin palaces). Good to be here as it’s NOT RAINING and is pleasantly warm.

Leaving Leeds Bradford airport this morning we had to walk miles to the furthest gate, then walk outside in the driving rain, crossing the tarmac to the plane and queuing to get up the aircraft steps! Come on LBA you can do better.

Just had a wander round town after dinner. Chris wanted traditional Maltese which of course meant rabbit. I can’t be bothered with all these bones but he enjoyed it!

Very tired now having been up at just after 4.00am. We had great views of the Alps en route and according to my iPad the picture taken through the window is of the Fellhorn-Kleinwalsertal- Ski area in Obertsdorf, Bavaria!
