A launderette with a difference

Today Mum had an appointment at an optician's in Durham to be assessed for ptosis loops for her spectacles. Not many opticians make these in 2019, hence the long journey.

The technician was delightful and let Mum try a demonstration pair of specs. The new ones have to be metal frames because the props are made from fine wire that is welded to the frame.

Now, where does the launderette come in? When we arrived Mum needed the loo, but the one in the optician's is upstairs. There was no way we could get the wheelchair up there (just saying!) and we were directed to the launderette up the road.

Not only did they have a loo, but they have a disabled loo. Perfect. I enjoyed looking around the launderette and talking to customers. Apparently it's very relaxing, because you pop a week's washing in the machine, sit down and read a book or use the free wifi and drink a coffee, all while the clothes wash and dry. Very cheap too.

The Old Cinema Launderette also has a bar and is used for gigs. The link shows the variety of bands who are performing there over the next three months. Amazing.

I enjoyed seeing the old washing powder boxes and the radio. We had one of those for years, of course.

Home in time to miss the first semi-final, but in time to watch all of the second. I'm pleased that Federer won and hope he will win on Sunday, but he is up against tough opposition.
