Seascape

After a quick breakfast it was off on the bus to Alnwick. The weather wasn't promising. It rained during b the night and most of the early part of day was dreich and drizzly.

That meant Alnwick Castle first. The schools aren't on here so it wasn't busy, not like Edinburgh. Not being into Hard Potter or Downton my main interest was the State Rooms. Quite overwhelming with marble and colour. And many portraits. Some of dead Percys (I couldn't work who was related to who) and framed photos of the current family. The Percin family from the Chateau de Montgaillard are supposed to be related to the Percy's but no mention of that.

Then to the Garden. I did the Poison Garden, the cascade, rose garden and the maze interspersed with coffee and herbal tea. It felt very peaceful and all in all I was there about 5 hours.

Then a walk round Alnwick which seems to coffee shops, estate agents and a couple of these wonderful ironmongers you get in places like Inverurie and Peebles. And the sun came out.

Back in the (school) bus (13 minutes) with time for a stroll on the beach. There is something wonderful about an incoming tide.

Failed to eat in the 'Red Lion' so it was the 'Hope and Anchor'. Tomorrow, north.
