MCO - day 5

Sunday, another day off and Mother's Day.  There had been talk of breakfast in bed, which I don't really like so I had avocado on toast at the table.  WH has been making 'no knead' bread, very good.

In the morning I was in 'my office' updating the Choir about developments and looking for ways to stay in touch. Then in the afternoon I did some sewing on the balcony and I've also finished one book, 'the Gift of Rain' by Tan Twan Eng about the Japanese occupation of Penang (some bits felt like today) and started another one, a Val McDermid.

We had dinner on the balcony again and then after there was two cacophonies of noise, the first a practice.  The second, the main event, led by a conch: banging clapping, lights, bells, pan lids.  It had clearly been organised through social media, not sure why.  Solidarity.  All the kids here loved it but I got a, justified, telling off (3 year olds should not have long forks).  It meant the view from the balcony changed as lights went on and folk were out on their balconies.  The guards downstairs were clearly perplexed.  Then after 15 mins it was back to silence.

Mum has worked out how to use WhatsApp so was able to speak to her.  I got messages but no video calls from #2 and #3 sons.  #2 put me on Instagram.

Also spoke to sister, J,  Her husband, D, hasn't been well for a couple of days, flu like cold, but was told yesterday by NHS24 to treat it as Covid-19 so that's them self isolating for 14 days.  Mum however, seems quite well. We also spoke to the other grandparents.  They are back from Liverpool, in London and bored although unlike us they can get out, to walk along the Thames every morning.  They are back on Thursday, for 14 days self isolating. Also spoke to Wen Xin (London) and Wen Shan (Taiwan).  Things are normal in Taiwan.  She was speaking from a cafe.

The government here sends out update texts through the phone companies so I get texts from DiGi, in BM, which I then have to translate.  In addition to only allowing one person out at a time to shop some supermarkets are also making customers wear masks.

5 days gone, 9 to go.
