Marjorie's ramblings

Walking with friends

Despite the inclement weather (!) five of us had a great walk today. Ably led by Jennifer, we set off from Bardon Mill and walked up to Vindolanda and then on to Hadrian's Wall.

It rained all morning, sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier. We stood up for our coffee. Here are Ann and Cathy showing off the new stile which takes you onto the Military Road. When Jennifer and Peter walked the route last week, the stile was very dangerous. Jennifer contacted the footpaths' office, who sent word to the National Trust and a new stile was in, just like that! Well done National Trust.

Can you see a famous landmark peeping into the back of the photo?

By the time we had reached Sycamore Gap, it was lunchtime and it was drizzling. Then, the rain stopped and we had a dry afternoon. The sun came out as we arrived back at our cars.

It was nine miles with lots of ups and downs and some heavy, muddy going with plenty of stiles to climb. I loved every minute. The views were pretty good considering.

I have added a delightful photo of Jennifer in a field with hand reared lambs. The second extra is one of the wide open views, this one to the south.

This was my last walk for the foreseeable future and I wanted to make the most of it.

Thank you all again for your wonderful response to my 10 years of blipping yesterday. I will reply to everyone as soon as I can.
