Mission San Xavier Del Bac

It was really cold and windy today. Earlier there were gusts to 50 mph and it never got out of the 50's. I was wrapped up like Nanook of the North. The snow birds thought it was just lovely.

Last night was the best sleep I have gotten in months. I attribute that to finally being able to get my Botox injections for cervical dystonia  which were three months overdue. (I could be the sole subject of a medical encyclopedia.)

The blip is a photo of the Mission San Xavier Del Bac. It's taken from a low angle so the west dome is not visible.  Next time I shoot the Mission I'll tell what I learned about the missing east dome. Everything was roped off so the only thing I could do was stand in the entranceway and say a prayer.

The first extra is a view of the narrow exit from the church.  I was waiting and waiting for the woman who was sweeping in the area to come into the frame but all I could ever get was the tip of her broom. The second is of a building I knew as the chapel. I've learned it was originally built my the missionaries as a mortuary. It's never open to the public.

The rest of the day was spent picking up my laundry, grabbing a takeaway BBQ brisket sandwich and tending to my backyard birdies. I also spoke to my "adopted" parents who live in New Jersey. Cuci was mom's best friend from the age of three, growing up in Buffalo's Italian neighborhood. She and Jim make me laugh. She tells me stories as much as mom did. Today it was that my mom went to their house for dinner every Saturday during the war. That's because Cuci's dad liked steak and saved up enough meat ration stamps to get it once a week. Stuff like that is special.  She also made a point of telling me she was 85 and three-quarters, I think because mom was older...by six months!

Perfect quote for the day...and the last four weeks:
“People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.”
— Søren Kierkegaard
