Fourth Sunday in Advent

The fourth Advent candle was lit this morning at our church service and we hummed two carols! Last week there was a discussion about the many and varied meanings given to the four advent candles and interestingly blipper A Cycling Granny said they lit their fourth candle today and it stood for Joy. Ours, the pink one or Lady candle stands for Mary, the others, purple, stand for preparation and the centre white one, lit on Christmas Day, for Incarnation of Christ.  Interesting how these meanings vary.

The thumbnail is of our Nativity outside church which I’ve already featured when lit. You can just make out white ribbons around the church door. These are for people to write on the names of those we wish to remember at Christmas as we are unable to see them. Very appropriate in the UK at the moment!
Across the road is the crib outside the Congregational church and I spotted the Peas on Earth sign next to it which I hadn’t noticed before.
Yesterday and today we took out some gifts to people who in normal times attend luncheon club. Chris is chairman so he has been making sure everyone gets a gift. One was on Moor Edge and we walked on to the end and found another village Advent window of the three kings.

All very appropriate to show that Christmas is NOT cancelled just family gatherings. We can never cancel this special and magical time of year when we were blessed by the saviour’s birth.

PS thrilled Bill Bailey won Strictly!
