Revisiting Gormley's Field

Liz and Nick collected me at 11 for our drive to Sunderland to see the installation of Anthony Gormley's Field for the British Isles.  I saw this in the 90s when it was in an old railway shed in Gateshead and it had a profound effect on me.

40,000 terracotta figures are in one space and they are all looking at the viewer. It's a remarkable idea. You can read about it here: Field for the British Isles

We had lunch at the Glass Centre café and enjoyed time to chat and eat together.

My main image is taken from above, but the first extra shows nearly all of the room with the figures in it, otherwise you might wonder what it really looks like.

After lunch we wandered along the riverside path to the marina. It was a beautiful sunny day and there was lots to see. On our return we viewed the Masters' degree final show work of glass. I liked some of the work, but not all. My favourite was a shrouded figure on a mortuary slab with only one (glass) foot and lower leg showing. It was very effective but not to everyone's taste!!

Tonight Mum and I watched the Christmas episode of All Creatures Great and Small. We had missed it first time around. Now we can start to watch the next series.
