A view from Jeanneb

Wild walk home.

A very windy day again. My friend and I walked up to Pilates in the village. Nice stretches using the ball, but not having been for a couple of weeks I will no doubt ache later.

We then went up to Stephen Smith’s garden centre for a coffee followed by lunch. This now seems to be our routine on a Tuesday. Very pleasant and a good catch up chat was enjoyed,

Walking home in very wild winds, being garden bin collection day they were all over the place, I crossed the bridge over Harden Beck which divides the village of Wilsden from our village, Harden. Just before the bridge is the pub ‘The Malt’. This is a very recent designation as it was originally The Malt Shovel. It certainly was that in the time of the infamous *Judge Jeffries who used to hold assizes there. He was known as the hanging judge but I don’t know if anyone from here was given that judgement.  As well as serving as a court house it has been an auction room and a prison.

It’s funny they changed the name to The Malt as many  locals know it as The Shovel!

* It is said that Judge Jeffries operated here when it was a court house.
