Sidi Barrani

Hurrah - we have a photo for Sidi Barrani! Thank you to whome for this imaginative contribution to our journal of places mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal). 

Lorna notes the capture of Sidi Barrani in her war diary entry of 12th December 1940. This is covered in Episode 7 of the podcast series of the Diary of the war.

It's almost 12 months since we started adding photographs of the places mentioned by Lorna in her war diary to this journal on 13th July 2022. We'd like to finish the job within the year, i.e. in the next three weeks.

Remember that we do not necessarily need a shot of a place - a representation will do. You'll see that we have included some representation ideas against some of the places in our list.

Albania: Durrës (Durazzo)[1]
Finland: Hanko (Hangö)[2]
Germany: Heligoland[3]
Greece: Thermopylae[4]
Russia: Karelian Isthmus; Petsamo province (part of Finland until 1944); Vyborg (Viipuri in Finland until 1944)[5]

[1] There is a restaurant with this name in London N8.
[2] Perhaps a Finnish blipper could help out with this location in the south of Finland?
[3] Also the name of a 2010 Massive Attack album - check the record collections of your friends and family!
[4] Are you in Paris? Are you going to Paris? Would you have time to pop into the Louvre to photograph Leonidas at Thermopylae by David for us?
[5] If you have access to a globe or a world map, this may be the best way for us to represent these two places. We very much doubt that any blippers will be planning trips here in the near future.
