Aufwiedersehen, Again

Nearly a month ago we had a farewell party for this gentleman and his family, who were returning to the US after an intense and amazing year in Germany, during which they weaseled their way very tightly into the hearts of my family (and much of the local expat community). I miss his wife terribly - she became a very dear friend.

Anyway, after bringing his family home so the kids could get back on track for school, Brett returned to Europe to wrap up some business and has been around for much of the last month. But tomorrow he leaves. For real this time. And while his wife and kids will be thrilled to have him home, I and my family have now lost our last thread of physical connection to the family that we consider an extension of our own. Brett and I had dinner tonight, as my family is out of town, and it was a fun evening, but a sad, sad goodbye. Thank God for Skype, and Facebook, and even Blip, as it will continue to keep us all close...until we meet again.

(sniff sniff)
